Edinburgh Park joins City Car Club
11/11/08
Edinburgh Park is today (Monday 3 November) launching the City Car Club for its employees, to become the first business park in Scotland to join the scheme.
The West Edinburgh business park will have two cars on site, a Vauxhall Corsa and an Astra, which will be available to over 7,000 employees based at the Park.
The scheme offers a cost effective travel solution for many drivers, saving members on costs typically linked to car ownership such as depreciation, insurance, maintenance and parking permits. It also offers environmental benefits, as members generally cut down on unnecessary car journeys by 35 per cent after they join and each City Car Club car replaces on average seven privately-owned cars.
Pamela Grant, development director at New Edinburgh Limited, developer of Edinburgh Park said: “The introduction of the City Car Club is an excellent benefit for Edinburgh Park. Many of our employees already travel using greener modes of transport, but we hope that the City Car Club scheme will encourage more employees out of private cars for their daily commute. These cars will be available for essential trips on an occasional basis."
There are already 86 City Cars in Edinburgh, which are popular with both businesses and city residents.
There is a £75 joining fee for the scheme and bookings can be made directly from the cars at a moments notice, or at www.citycarclub.co.uk or by calling 0845 330 1234.
Edinburgh Park has a comprehensive green travel plan to promote sustainable transport options. There are a number of initiatives and facilities available to staff including bikes available for hire free of charge to its employees, along with bike parking, dedicated cycle tracks and showers to encourage commuters to cycle to work. The Park also has a car share scheme, which matches employees who share a similar route to work.
Ends 3 November 2008
